Bell Equipment, founded in South Africa in 1954, is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. It has its headquarters and
factory at Richards Bay, on South Africa’s east coast. From here the company manufactures its impressive range comprising
over 50 different models of Articulated Dump Trucks (ADTs), wheeled loaders, rigid and articulated haulers and tri-wheeler
rough terrain material handling equipment.
In 1985 the company entered one of the most competitive arenas of the industry by producing its first Articulated Dump Truck
(ADT). These machines, now led by the new D-series launched at the end of 2001, are the company’s flagship and most popular
In all its endeavours the company is driven by providing lowest cost per tonne solutions to the construction, mining, timber
and sugar industries through research and development efforts, where some 4% of revenue is invested.
In line with becoming a global role player, the company is accredited with the ISO 9001 1994 Quality Management System
Certification. An initiative is in implementation to achieve ‘A’ class World Class Organisation (WCO) status by 2005.
Continuous growth now sees Bell Equipment with over 16% of the total European ADT market.
The Belgium and United Kingdom markets have been particularly strong for Bell Equipment which has also captured over 15% of
the market in France. In 2002 the company expanded its network in western Europe to 62 dealers and concluded a distribution
agreement with Liebherr Germany whereby they have undertaken to sell and distribute Bell ADTs from their six branch outlets
in Gemany, six branches in Austria and their rental company throughout Europe.
Bell Equipment’s success in the European markets has prompted the company to open an assembly plant for Articulated Dump
Trucks in Germany at an initial investment of over 5 million Euros.
